Aviation Security Training School

The school was established as a result of ICAO requirement for the state to recruit and conduct SPT 123 Basic as well as recruiting for their own AVSEC staff. It then began as a small section within the AVSEC Department of the GCAA way back in the early 80’s.

After the decoupling exercise in 2007, the school is now managed by Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) and it is one of the four (4) sections in the AVSEC Department headed by a Manager.

The courses which are initially tailored to meet the needs of AVSEC officers saw a change in scope in recent time to include but not limited to Private Security Agencies and Non-Security staff. The school also offers other training assistance upon request.

Location: The school is located within the Airport Clinic Block behind the GACL headquarters.

The Classroom Environment: the classroom can also contain up to thirty Participants, well-spaced with isle to provide maximum comfort. The facility is fitted with split air-conditioner units, overhead projector, audio-visual, and a screen for power point presentation. It is adequate illuminated and hence congenial for teaching and learning.

Attached: A portion of the classroom is partitioned to serve as an office for the instructors and other administrative work.

Instructors: There are eight (8) certified National Instructors, some of whom are Short Termed Expect ICAO instructor/Auditor. They were engaged on many occasions in training assignment both locally and internationally on behalf of ICAO.

General: The school offers various types of courses, some of which are mandatory requirement and others upon request. The school conducts (General Security Awareness and Safety Awareness Training) for various categories of staff functions required them to access the airside, passenger terminal and other remote areas installations.

Non-Security staff: This includes but not limited to personnel on Attachment, National Service, Public Relation Officer (PRO’s), Government and Non-Government organizations, GACL staff, GCAA, Airline Staff, Contract staff and Diplomatic Missions.

This includes; The Military, Police, Customs, GIS, NACOB, NSC and the BNI among others.

Specialized Training: These are offered upon request. The training last between two (2) and ten (10) days, depending on the type of training requested.

Target Groups: Airline Staff, Private Security Agencies, Customs, NACOB etc.

Airside Safety Training: This training is offered specifically for staff who work at the airside especially drivers and or equipment operators to ensure that they are aware of the airside hazards and their possible countermeasures.

This includes RFFS, Marshallers, Ground Handlers, Airside Staff, Catering Company, Fuel Companies etc.
