The Chairman of the Audit Committee of Ghana Airports Company Limited, Mr. Richard Darko has charged the Audit, Compliance & Risk Management department to leverage on technology to carry out audits more effectively and maximize the utilization of resources in order to stay ahead of the game. He said this at the launch of Internal Audit Awareness month at Kotoka International Airport.
He further added that Internal Audit provides independent and objective assurance on the effectiveness of internal processes and enables the sharing and adoption of best practices to drive greater efficiency in an organization. He urged internal auditors to play a pivotal role in analyzing the business processes when conducting their work, especially during this COVID-19 pandemic era.
Mr. Kwaku Owusu Odame, Director, Internal Audit, Compliance & Risk Management on his part, indicated that the objective of the Internal Audit month was not only to dispel misperceptions about the profession, but also enhance the business community’s knowledge of the essential role played by Internal Auditors in organizational governance, internal control and effective risk management.
In his address, the Managing Director of Ghana Airports Company Limited, Mr. Yaw Kwakwa, indicated that over the years, internal audit has played a crucial role within its constraints, providing assurance, adding value and improving the efficiency and effectiveness of operations in the company. He urged internal auditors to approach risk assessment, audit planning, sampling, testing and reporting in an innovative manner thereby increasing the value of internal auditing.
The month of May has been set aside as International Internal Audit Awareness month with the objective of promoting and educating the general public on the role of internal audit in organizations.
