The Minister of Transport, Hon. Kwaku Ofori Asiamah has led a delegation to inspect progress of work and ascertain the operational readiness of the Sunyani Airport.
Briefing the media after touring the facility, Mr. Asiamah expressed satisfaction with the progress of work and said the delay in resumption of flight services to the region was to ensure strict adherence to established international standards.
He further expressed worry about encroachment around the airport and indicated the Ministry’s preparedness to engage relevant stakeholders on the matter.
The project contractor, Mr Abdul Salam Zabilla Alhassan indicated that phase one of the Sunyani Airport rehabilitation was ready for operationalization pending certification by regulatory authorities.
Group Capt. Jarvis Wienaa, Board Member of Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), indicated that the Ghana Air Force would conduct a test flight around the airport to identify the coordinates, suitable route and submit a report to GACL for consideration.
The Regional Minister, Hon. Justina Owusu Banahene, expressed excitement at the prospects of operationalizing the Sunyani Airport and its expected impact on the local economy.
The Minister was accompanied on the visit by Ministers of State, Deputy Ministers of State and officials from GACL and GCAA.
