Africa World Airlines (AWA) has began commercial operations to Wa Airport, thus becoming the first commercial airline to operate a flight to Wa since the airport was granted clearance by International Air Transport Association (IATA) to commence operations. The flight was welcomed to Wa by Chiefs, Government officials and the people of Wa.
Addressing the gathering, the Upper West Regional Minister, Dr Hafiz Bin Salih said the inauguration of commercial flight operations to Wa Airport will go along way to expand and strengthen the existing relationship between the region and neighbouring countries.
He indicated that, considering the role aviation plays in the growth of tourism, commercial flight activities will make it easier and convenient for tourists to visit the region and thereby better the livelihoods of the people.
The Deputy Minister of Aviation, Hon Yaw Afful on his part, commended the airline for taking the bold step and entreated the travelling public to show commitment to the airline by patronizing its services to make the Wa route commercially viable and attractive. Africa World Airlines is expected to fly three times weekly; Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays to Wa.
